The Exakta Circle: activities, membership

The Exakta Circle
is an active club or society of collectors of Exaktas, Exas and all other cameras and products of the former Ihagee factory in Dresden, Germany. Lenses and other equipment, made for Ihagee cameras by other companies all over the world also belong to the area of interest.

Journal the Exakta Times
The Exakta Circle publishes a quarterly journal, the Exakta Times, since 1990. Each issue contains now 30 or more pages of letters, studies, collected data, personal opinions and impressions, discussions (sometimes even heated ones) and equipment for want and for sale, with many illustrations.

Size
The Exakta Circle has about 140 members (2007) from all over the world. Many of them are active collectors, not only of equipment but also of information about the history of the Ihagee company and its products.

Meetings
Twice a year there is a formal/informal meeting of the members. One is the Spring Meeting, usually  in April. The Anual General meeting (AGM) is in October. Nowadays these meetings are held in Steventon, a village south-east of Oxford. Members not only talk about their hobby, they also bring items to show of to sell.
So far, no "official" meetings have been organised in other countries, although members have met there in smaller groups sometimes.

Next meetings
The next meetings (Spring and AGM) will take place on Sunday 27 April and on Sunday 12 October 2008, both at St. Michael's Chruch Hall in Steventon, Oxfordshire.

Another activity is the "booklets". Many little booklets circulate between the members. Each member describes on one page a recent acquisition or interesting fact before sending it back for redistribution.

Library
The club's librarian has a large amount of relevant documentation at his disposal. Members may study this material. Even more documents are listed in the Ihagee/Exakta bibliography.

Informal communicaton
Much communication between members is done informally. The internet is a very practical means to exchange news, questions and answers and research material.

The committee of the Exakta Circle
consists of the following members (October 2007):
   vacant                       chairman
   Chris Fransella         secretary                    cafransella@tiscali.co.uk
   Derek Philps             treasurer                    -----------

   Mike Matthews         booklets coordinator  wenmik@tinyworld.co.uk
Mark Stuecheli          booklets coordinator for North America  mstuke@everestkc.net

Much is available but maybe even more is unknown, unclear, not sorted out or contradictory. Do you want to be mostly a passive member or do you want to support the ongoing study into the past of Ihagee and Exakta? You are welcome.

Annual fees
Membership fees are very reasonable for 2007-08. A United Kingdom member pays £ 18 a year, Overseas members pay £ 20 a year, the difference being the extra postage for the Exakta Times.
In October 2007 the AGM decided to raise the contribution for 2008-09 to £ 23 for UK members and £ 25 for overseas. This is to finance more pages in full colour in the Exakta Times. The Club Year goes from the 1st of April to end March. The strongly recommended way to pay for overseas members is PayPal.
